This is Mindy, Luke's mom. He's been a bit busy, so while we've had weekly updates from Luke by phone, we haven't had an official letter in awhile till this week. I'm realizing that it might be helpful for me to sum up the highlights of the past month and share a few pics before I post his letter ;)
First highlight, he got to go to the Washington, D.C. temple for the first time! Their friend, Suzie, was able to go do baptisms with the branch. It was an extra special day for lots of reasons. Elder Ballard and Elder Cook visited the DC North and DC South missions and they got to hear from them in a special mission conference. It was incredible (hopefully, I can convince him to share some of his thoughts on that), but it was a very special and sacred experience.
Transfers happened and the Chinese mission got not one, but TWO new elders! This was very exciting news, as the mission was down to just 3 missionaries before their arrival. Luke is now a trainer and the awesome new missionary he's training is named Kyler Andrews from Nampa, Idaho. He's also still with Elder Luo, so they're living the trio mission life :) Their trio moved back to Crystal City, which is where a lot of their friends are, so that's been wonderful.
Elder Luo had a birthday and joined the "officially 20" club!
They've been spending quite a bit of time with their friends, Helen and her son, Clark. Clark is planning on getting baptized in May! The missionaries were able to help Clark with his science fair project a couple weeks ago... it was a last-minute effort ha but his project (which involved figuring out if there's a taste difference in sodas) turned out great and they had a blast doing it.
Spring is in the air in Washington, D.C.
With his sister Aubree's help back home, Luke and the other Chinese missionaries redesigned the bulletin board for the Chinese branch. I'm proud to be the mother of such creative children! Here are the before and after pics:
Luke (and his comps... I think) ordered Washington (Nationals?) jerseys with Chinese lettering on them months ago and they finally arrived!
Luke celebrated his first mission Easter and was determined to share some of his favorite Easter traditions with his comps. His sister, Aubree, made super cute Easter baskets/boxes for all 3 missionaries and Luke channeled his dad's vibe and hid Elder Luo's and Elder Andrews' baskets haha (see videos). They introduced Elder Luo to dying Easter eggs and shared a delicious Easter breakfast together.
And finally, some random fun pics from the past month...
