"Stamping my name on every day!"

With the weeks starting to countdown here, I really feel the pressure coming on to: 1) make sure I actually write an email, and 2) make sure it’s an email that’s at least half-decent haha! So, hopefully today will live up to that! I already have crushed it on part one haha!

This last week was a great week! I’ll be honest, I just don’t know the last time I had a bad week! There are always going to be ups and downs in life, but the important thing is, focus on the ups!

This week, just a couple days ago, I started reading Helaman! Helaman 5 is one of my very favorite chapters in the Book of Mormon! It has some very iconic and well known scriptures, but each time I read it, I feel like there’s a new verse that sticks out to me! This last week, I particularly liked verses 6 & 7!
They say, “Behold, I have given unto you the names of our first parents who came out of the land of Jerusalem; and this I have done that when you remember your names ye may remember them; and when ye remember them ye may remember their works; and when ye remember their works ye may know how that is is said, and also written, that they were good. Therefore, my sons, I would that ye should do that which is good, that is may be said of you, and also written even as it has been said and written of them.”

Earlier today I was asked the question, “On a scale of 1-100, how much do you like your name? My answer: 100! I love my name! As I thought about that question and thought about these scriptures I thought about how it applies to me. My first name is Luke. I’ll be honest, I don’t know what super duper important significance it has… other than the fact that it’s for sure one of the best books of scripture in the New Testament haha! I love my name! But I want to focus on my middle and last name! My middle name is Robert! This is also my dad’s middle name. When I read these verses, I couldn’t help but think of my amazing dad! Each time I think of my name, I remember my dad, his works, and that he has always been good! I am so grateful for my dad and the example that he is to me in my life! To say that I have done everything in my power to model myself after him would be an understatement! I strive to show respect and love to others, just like he does! I try to strengthen my relationship with God and Christ, just like he does! I try to be optimistic, especially in the midst of trials, just like he does! I try to be someone that other people can feel happy around and like they can be themselves, just like he does! I could go on and on and on! I am so grateful for my dad, and the example he has always been to me!

Next, my last name is Steadman! I love my last name! My dad told me a long time ago, that Steadman has a lot that comes with it! He taught me that it’s important that we always represent our family name well! That when others hear, “Steadman,” there is always a positive connotation behind it! When I was younger, I remember being told that I should leave every day proud to put my name on it! To quite literally picture myself stamping my name on every day! Stamping it so that everybody could see that it was MY day! That carried over into more than just days! Soon I tried to apply that to everything that I did! I wanted to do it in a way that I could stamp my name on it, so that everyone could see what it means to be a “Steadman." I’m grateful for that teaching. It has blessed me in my life!

So there’s my short little thought for the day! Leave every day with your mark on it! Be like my dad and be an example to others around you! I am grateful for the gospel, I know that it’s true! I know that Joseph Smith was and is a true prophet and I have the utmost respect for him! I am grateful for my loving Savior who has held my hand throughout my entire life and especially throughout my mission! This week,  I started my last transfer as a full-time missionary! I can’t wait for all that comes! I love my Savior so very much and would do anything for Him!

Until Next Time,
Elder Steadman 司长老
